Saucy Take-Out Style Pizza Sauce

Laurel Braun
Never use store bought again! Here is an easy substitute for your favourite canned or squeeze bottle sauce. I love how easy this is to get started while my dough is rising, then almost cool just in time to dress the pizza! Can be made in just 15 minutes if short on time.

Ingredients

  • 398 ml can tomato sauce
  • 2-3 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 tsp white sugar
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • ½ tsp fine sea salt
  • ¼ tsp dried oregano
  • ¼ tsp dried marjoram
  • ¼ tsp black pepper

Directions

  • In a small-medium pot with a lid, add all the ingredients. Whisk to combine and set over medium-low heat with the lid to bring to a simmer.
  • Once the mixture is at a simmer, reduce the heat to low and let it cook, partially covered, for 1 hour until the mixture thickens. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
  • Spread a few tbsp of the sauce on a pizza crust up to 1-2 cm from the edge. Add cheese and other toppings as desired.

Notes

Freezer Friendly: Freeze extras in small containers in single use portions for quick dinners.
Quick Version: To prepare this sauce quickly, simmer for 15 minutes then cool the sauce in a small heat/warp safe dish (metal bowls are best) inside a larger dish with ice water. Stir well for 5 minutes until cooled.
